Reviews For Five Days to Live

As a Dan Coast fan I read just about anything I can find by Rodney Riesel. This John and Kurt series is really good too and seems to be getting better with each book. Especially with the overlap into another series's characters. These books read very fast so I was happy that this latest one lasted a bit longer.

Riesel has another winner! Fast paced, funny and oh yeah, FUNNY! Anxiously awaiting his next book and the next after that.

I love these books. I try to pace myself but I end up binge reading. Then the wait begins for a new one....

Constant Maintenance
Fernandina Beach Mystery Book 5

In this fifth installment of the Fernandina Beach Mystery Series, local maintenance man, and amateur sleuth, Rex Langley is called in to repair one of the apartments over Collins' Hardware, and quickly realizes, all may not be as it seems. The apartment, he was told, was damaged in a break-in.

Why would Roscoe Wade break into Darlene Sullivan's apartment? Rex wonders. The two had been neighbors for years.

Fernandina Beach Detective Calvin Rance, one of Mrs. Sullivan's former students, says, “It's an open and shut case. Roscoe broke in, not knowing Darlene was home. There was a struggle, and Roscoe, slipping on a puddle of water, falls and hits his head on the edge of the tub.”

As Rex digs deeper, a mysterious man, a telescope, and a long ago death forces him to bring his wife, Gayle Langley, a retired Navy Master-at-arms, into the investigation.

Reviews For Constant Maintenance

It was fun to get back together with Rex and the gang. This one entirely centers on the town of Fernandina Beach and you can practically feel the salt in the air and the sand on your feet. The town itself is practically a character.

Lots of twists and turns in the story and plenty of excitement in the final third. There is some good investigation here, as the plot unfolds through the characters' deductions and reasoning rather than random events. Plenty of wisecracks as well, and the supporting cast of characters sparkles. Hope the author will give us a sixth adventure soon!

I love a Rodney Riesel's books. I love a good mystery with a touch of unsophisticated humor and his books nail it each and every time. I love how characters from one series may be mentioned in another. This book does not disappoint. Rex is a handyman that sticks his nose in an investigation that is closed involving a retired school teacher. It is actually quite sweet at the end with the revelation of her loss. I can't wait for the next one.
